Library and information services are crucial to achieving access to information and freedom of expression and in fostering literacy and learning. We monitor global developments relevant to information professionals and advance the interests of our members by working with a number of international organisations.
International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA)
IFLA is the global voice of the library and information profession, representing the interests of library and information services and their users.
CILIP is a founder member and continues to be actively involved. We represent the views and aspirations of UK library and information professionals at all levels, including on the Governing Board, Professional Committee, Committee on Copyright and other Legal Matters and Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression.
We also provide opportunities for CILIP members to enrich their professional lives by:
- Encouraging CILIP members to become elected to IFLA Sections (Special Interest Groups).
- Facilitating their involvement with IFLA Sections.
IFLA is asking all in the library field worldwide to "explore how a connected library field can meet the challenges of the future". Conclusions from these international conversations will provide a basis for the IFLA Global Vision report which will be published in early 2018.
If you would like to contribute your views on why you think your work is important and how you see your work in the future you can contribute to the dicussion taking place #IFLAglobalvision or complete the short questionnaire at the bottom of this page and email to email@example.com

Held annually, the IFLA World Library and Information Congress is the flagship global professional and trade event for the sector.
